dr. Rikke Vestergaard

Postdoctoral researcher based at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo. She is a geologist with a PhD in petrology, geochronology and isotope geochemistry. Her PhD research explores the Paleoproterozoic Ketilidian Orogen in South Greenland, focusing mostly on zircon U-Pb dating and Hf-O isotope geochemistry. Her contribution extends the understanding of the crustal growth and evolution story of the Ketilidian Orogen. In addition, she has studied the volcanic landforms and landscapes, as well as the eruptive record of the Hekla volcano in Iceland, thereby accessing the potential volcanic hazards.

Her key research interests:
- Igneous petrology
- Isotope geochemistry and geochronology
- Geochemical tracers
- Continental crustal growth
- Volcanology
- Plate tectonics
- Lava morphology and emplacement mechanisms
- Remote sensing and GIS
- Fieldwork
- Renewable energy sources
- Ore deposit geology
