Dr. Daniel Dunkley visited India for scientific work in January 2023. He was invited by Prof. Sajeev Krishnan of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. During his stay at IISc, Dr. Dunkley worked with samples from the Indian subcontinent and conducted fieldwork in high-grade metamorphic terranes of the southern Indian Peninsula. He was invited as guest speaker and valedictory speaker to the 3rd International Conference on Geology: Emerging Methods and Applications (GEM-2023) held at Christ College, Thrissur, Kerala, during January 23-25, 2023.

After Bangalore, his next destination was Mumbai. He was invited by Somaiya University and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. He enjoyed interacting with geology students at the Geology department at Somaiya University and gave a talk at the Earth Science department of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. Dr. Dunkley also enjoyed some field work in volcanics around Mumbai, accompanied by Deepak Sahu, Somaiya University, and Dr. Aditya Joshi, Manipal Institute of Technology. The team visited the columnar basalt outcrop at Uttan and the pillow basalt outcrop at Kanheri caves near Mumbai.
